Rosa Parks - The Mother of the Freedom Movement
Rosa Parks was an African-American civil rights activist who was most well-known for the Montgomery Bus Boycott incident. She was arrested for not giving up her seat for white people on a bus.
During the 1900s, seats on public transports were divided into two sections - whites and coloured. Black people on public transports would have to give up their seats for whites if there are no seats left. As the bus travels along, it starts to fill up and some white people were left with no seats. This led to the bus driver moving the "coloured" section back a few rows so the white people can sit down. Although they were reluctant at first, eventually all of them gave up their seats except for Parks.
Instead of moving back to the redesignated "coloured" section, she moved to the window seat at the end of the row. After being told by the driver to move a few times and still resisted moving, he went on to call the police. In her autobiography that was published in 1992, she claimed that she was, in fact, not tired physically, but instead, she was tired of giving in to white people.

Rodney King - Victim of a Police Beat up
Rodney King was an African American construction worker who was well known for getting in a high speed car chase, before being beat up by a group of Los Angeles police officers.
One night in 1991, King and two friends were spending the night watching a basketball game and drinking at a friend's house. At about 12:30 am, he was driving home with his two friends, when he was accused of speeding and drink driving on the highway. However, scared that a charge of drink driving would affect his parole for a previous robbery conviction, King refused to pullover and the chase continued for approximately eight miles, before the officers cornered him. While his two passengers complied and were taken custody without any trouble, King acted strangely as he exited the vehicle, giggling and waving at the police helicopters overhead. Although King was tested negative for drug, the officers claim that King was under the influence of a drug, which led to them attempting to restrain King. King resisted and eventually the officers had enough, surrounded King and started hitting him with their batons. This was recorded by George Holliday, who live in an apartment near where the incident occurred. Holliday later contacted police about the videotape and went to KTLA television which broadcast the whole tape. The officers were arrested a couple days later and were found guilty and were imprisoned.
